§ 1
In the sense used in this Ethical Code, a professional interpreter shall be a person who for remuneration converts, using unmistakable means, the sense of an affirmation by a speaker from the source language into a target language. The result of the creative work of an interpreter shall be a new value, which shall have the nature of intellectual property.
§ 2
In the sense used in this Ethical Code, a professional translator shall be a person who for remuneration converts, using unmistakable means, the sense of a written affirmation by a speaker from the source language into a target language in written form. The result of the creative work of a translator shall be a new value, which shall have the nature of intellectual property.
§ 3
Interpreters and translators shall always be fully bound by professional secrecy, whereby they must not reveal to anyone anything that they may learn during their activities of interpreting and translating relating to non-public discussions and translations.
§ 4
Interpreters and translators must never misuse or take advantage of confidential information.
§ 5
Interpreters and translators shall on principle only take on commitments that correspond to their abilities and state of preparedness. They shall bear full moral responsibility for the results of their work.
§ 6
Interpreters and translators shall refuse to carry out such activity and refrain from such behaviour that might do harm to the dignity of their profession.
§ 7
Interpreters and translators shall on principle demonstrate solidarity with their colleagues.
§ 8
Interpreters and translators shall always arrange interpreting and translations for other interpreters and translators without charge.
§ 9
The practice of their profession shall not curtail interpreters' and translators' personal human and civic rights and must not be to the detriment of their dignity.
