After a brief general introduction to standards and what they are, the presentation will explain the Austrian standards ÖNORM D 1200 and D 1201 and the certification procedure in Austria. The certification procedure according to ÖNORM D 1200 is the first one in Europe to actually audit the basic skills needed to supply translation services to a professional standard which applies to suppliers of all sizes and business models. The presentation will also give an overview of the status of the work on the European translation standard committee (CEN/BT TF 138 - Translation Services) and some comments on the issues being debated behind the scenes.
