For several years now, the ATA (American Translators Association) has been collaborating with ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) Technical Committee F15 for Consumer Products Standards to draw up a standard for translation agreements. Designated as ASTM F15.48, Consumer-Oriented Guide to Quality Assurance in Translation and Localization, the document provides a guide designed to identify factors relevant to the quality of language translation and localization services for each phase of a project and to provide a framework within which the participants in a services agreement can define the specifications necessary to arrive at a product that satisfies defined customer needs.
This guide will join ASTM F2089-01 Standard Guide for Language Interpretation Services as a resource for clients contracting for language-related services. The F15.48 document is currently in first draft ballot under ASTM procedures. The presentation will cover the work of the committee (including membership and process) and an overview and discussion of the standard document itself.
